Every year, each Kansan produces more than 3/4 of a ton of trash - that's 3.2 million tons total! We think of products as being disposable, but wheter this material is burned, moved, or buried, it must go somewhere to be managed by someone. City and county offices have the potential to make a major impact on the state of our environment by adopting simple practices like recycling and waste reduction.
Disposing of waste costs money and has both environmental and economic implications for local units of government and Kansas as a whole. Reducing waste means using and spending less and getting more out of what is used. Offices that practice waste reduction and recycling are going to save money on reduced dispsal fees and operational efficiencies. Additionally, cities and counties may even be able to earn revenue from the sale of recycled materials.
By joining the Green Team effort and incorporating environmental considerations into your daily operations, city and county offices can waste less, save money, help the environment, and set an example for all Kansans to follow.
