Kansas Green Team Assembly held July 16

The Kansas Green Team Assembly and Awards Luncheon held on July 16 was attended by 96 participants. Highlights of the event included a keynote address by Green TV host Simran Sethi and an awards luncheon in which awards were presented as follows: Best Green Purchasing Program - Division of Legislative Post Audit; Best Recycling Program - Kansas Neurological Institute; Best Waste Reduction Program - Lansing Correctional Facility. Twelve other state agencies and offices received recognition certificates for their waste reduction, recycling, and green purchasing efforts. 1. Steel Cans - can be included in the aluminum can recycling receptacles located throughout the building.

2. Plastic Food Trays – plastic containers marked with a triangle and number (excluding plastic bags and items made from Styrofoam/polystyrene foam) can be included in the plastic bottle recycling receptacles located throughout the building.

Prison Blues Get a Second Chance

A handful of Hutchinson prison inmates are helping warm the homeless with old prison blues.

Through a program started about three weeks ago, the inmates are recycling used prison clothing to make blankets.
