GE Aviation Green Team
Our facility has many different areas and buildings and we have participation from all of them. We are a 3-shift manufacturing facility and the Green Team here has members from all shifts. It is a team with both management and hourly (union) participation so that we have a diverse and united group to support the program as well as implement new ideas for the improvement and continuation of our recycling program.
There is a team for each of the 3 shifts that meets bi-weekly for 30 min. At the meetings we discuss the progress of the program as well as ideas for its continuation. Since we still have a relatively new program, we are looking for ideas to improve communication to raise awareness of the program as well as increase employee involvement.
For the future, we are looking to begin recycling other materials such as plastic bottles and plastic paper holders as well as other ways to reduce our environmental impact such as reduction and reuse of materials.
show lessThere are multiples buildings at our facility and they do not necessarily have a recycling cointainer for every fiber. Paper recycling cubic yard boxes are located on the shop floor, small containers for employees to empty into these containers are also located in office areas. Cardboard recycling dumpsters are located on the shop floor as well. Aluminum can recycling receptacles are setup in break rooms and near the vending machines. Scrap metal bins are located at various stations on the shop floor. For the purposes of reuse by employees there is an outside fenced-in-area for storage of wooden boxes and pallets.

The GE Aviation Recycling Program incorporates paper (white, colored, newspaper, manila folders, magazines, glossy advertising, brochures, phonebooks, computer paper, and opened envelopes and mail), cardboard (regular cardboar), wooden pallets and boxes (reused and employees can take them home), aluminum cans, and scrap metal.
