The employees at KDOT are committed to serving the residents and visitors of Kansas by recycling.  Not only do we recycle and reuse materials on KDOT highway projects and maintenance activities such as asphalt millings and recycled concrete, we also recycle common items such as shreaded office paper, anti-freeze, motor oil, used tires and scrape iron.  We encourage the Adopt A Hightway groups to recycle items collected during highway clean ups such as aluminum cans, glass and plastic items.  We support local farmers when they want to utilitize KDOT right of ways for harvesting hay.  When baled, this grass provides food for their livestock that would otherwise be unused or wasted, which is true definition of recycling.  We have supplied unusable or damaged metal and concrete culverts to the local Parks and Wildlife agencie to place in area lake beds for improved fish habits.  A number of KDOT employees participate in local recycling programs in their own homes by seperating plastics, paper items, cardboard products, tin cans and glass.  If everyone would do their part by recycling, reusing and reducing,  we will pass on a better world to our children.
