KPERS Green Team
Our agency has recycled items for several years. As more recycle sites became available our list of recyclables also grew. Besides recycling newspapers, magazines, office paper, aluminum cans, cardboard, and toner cartridges we look for other ways to keep other items out of landfills. As many items as possible are sent to surplus property. Computer items not wanted by surplus property are taken to a computer recycling facility. We store items at KPERS that might be needed for future employees such as work surfaces, chairs, book cases, or filing cabinets. Also office supplies such as calculators, staplers or telephones are reused. We have reduced the need for paper by having forms available on our web site to be printed by interested parties on an as needed basis. Some member forms and reports are now processed electronically, reducing the need for paper. Rather than use the postal service, and more paper, some of our newsletters are now sent electronically. Our building uses ALTO bulbs which have an extremely low mercury content and are considered environmentally friendly. The lighting is reduced in our building each evening, weekend and holidays and the temperature is also reduced over weekends. show less
