Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility Green Guard
The Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility Green Team is comprised of a group of 12 staff from all areas of the facility. The mission of the team is to promote recycling and waste reduction efforts and to educate the staff and youth residents on the importance of recycling and reducing the amount of waste. Our efforts will not just center on recycling items but also on conserving energy and utilizing environmental friendly practices. Recently the landscaping of our facility was redone to plant Buffalo grass (which requires less water) and plants/shrubs in rock areas.
One of the frst orders of business for the committee was to visit the local recycling center to learn more about the recycling efforts we can implement.
show lessWe have Shred It boxes located in every main office area in the facility. There is a cardboard recycling bin located by the outside dock area. Used printer cartridges are sent to another state agency located adjacent to LJCF.
Many of our current recycling programs have been around for a long time. In May 2007 we contracted with a shredder company to pick up paper shredding every 8 weeks. Our goal is to implement many new intiatives by January 2008 which will include educating staff and the youth residents on recycling and other waste reduction efforts.
